Regardless of what you may put your FOCUS through, it has, in fact, already survived the

worst: 36 months of development.

It is a fairly harmless start. With an idea in their heads and paper and pencil to hand, our engi-

neers draw the ﬁrst sketches of the new bike. Our technicians then use these to create the ﬁrst

2D drawings in which the rough measurements are set down. After some ﬁne tuning in a 3D simu-

lation, the ﬁrst prototypes are produced.

However, a raw wind suddenly blows when our chief tester enters the game. The tester is the ab-

solute ruler of our torture chamber. It is here that every new bike has to show what it‘s really

made of: survive load tests that take a bike to its physical limits; prove its durability and rigidity.

Having dealt with all that, there‘s still a long way to go. The aerodynamics, components and ﬁne

tuning also have to be 100% right before a bike is ﬁnally allowed on the track outside. And it is

here that the worst torture awaits every bike: our FOCUS test riders.

These lads show no mercy. Not until they get off and give it the nod has a new bike ﬁnally done

it and earnt the right to bear the name FOCUS.

36 Monate Entwicklung.

Dabei fängt alles harmlos an. Mit einer Idee im Kopf, Zettel und Stift entwerfen unsere Ingenieure

erste Skizzen des neuen Bikes. Daraus fertigen unsere Techniker erste 2D-Zeichnungen, in denen die

Abmaße grob festgelegt werden. Und nach anschließendem Finetuning in der 3D-Simulation entstehen

erste Prototypen.

Doch plötzlich weht ein rauerer Wind, denn jetzt kommt unser Cheftester ins Spiel. Er ist der uneinge-

schränkte Herrscher unserer Folterkammer. In der muss jedes neue Bike zeigen, was es wirklich drauf

hat: Belastungstests bis an die physikalischen Grenzen überstehen; Bruchsicherheit und Steiﬁgkeit

beweisen. Wer das weggesteckt hat, ist noch lange nicht im Ziel. Denn auch Aerodynamik, Ausstat-

tung und Feineinstellung müssen 100% stimmen, bevor die Strecke draußen endlich keine Sperrzone

mehr ist. Und hier erwartet jedes Bike die schlimmste Tortur: unsere FOCUS-Testfahrer.

Die Jungs kennen kein Pardon und vor allem kein Erbarmen. Erst wenn sie vom Rad steigen und mit

dem Kopf nicken, hat es das neue Bike geschafft: es darf sich mit dem Namen FOCUS schmücken. //

30 Bikes der Pilotproduktion den Alltag unserer

Mitarbeiter überstehen, wird aus einem Fahrrad

ein echtes FOCUS. ||
